Are You Living Your Full College Experience? 4 Things Every Freshman Should Start Doing Now

So you’ve graduated. First off, congratulations!

You have successfully completed the first big milestone in your life. When students graduate high school, they tend to hear the same advice. “Make sure you go to class!” “Don’t go to school trying to party!” blah blah.

People always tell you the basics. What they don’t tell you is what to do to have a successful college experience. Here are 4 things that every freshman should do:

1. Get Involved

The best thing that you can do in college is to get involved. Be at every event. This is how you meet new people and make new friends. Join an organizations, run for a position, do not be afraid to put yourself out there. Take advantage of everything your campus has to offer because your college years are literally the best years of your life.

2. Get To Know Your Professors

Do more than just go to class. It is important to form bonds with your professors and make sure they know exactly who you are. Go to their office hours, ask questions, do whatever you have to do so that they know you. You will need your professors to write you letters of recommendations when you apply for jobs or scholarships.

3. Learn To Balance Yourself

When you leave for college people (mostly parents) always tell you not to party. I am here to say the exact opposite. Party! Go out and have the time of your life. The ultimate trick to college is learning to balance having fun and doing your work. Go out to that party that is in the middle of the week, that fine. But, the next day you need to be up and ready for class like it never happened. Know your limits and balance your time wisely. If you know that you have an 8 o’clock class that you never make it to, stay in. If you have 3 assignments due the next day that you haven’t started, STAY IN.

4. Don’t Be “THAT” Freshman

You are leaving your hometown and heading to a completely new environment. I get it. New guys/girls, new school, new reputation. It is okay to make new friends or relationships. However, do not be that freshman that is in and out of all of the buildings at all times of the night. We see you. You are being talked about.

These are just a few of the things that you need to do to make your college years successful. (I can’t give you all the tips!) Overall, enjoy it. Have fun and live your life, but do not forget why you are there. Good Luck!
