Virginia State University Fight – “Trojan Nation Speaks Out”
Winston-Salem State quarterback Rudy Johnson was injured during a fight at a luncheon the day before the CIAA championship game was scheduled, and a Virginia State player was arrested. Virginia State and Winston-Salem State University both have their own version of the story.
The CIAA, decided to cancel the game, and declared Virginia State ineligible for postseason play. The Trojans and Winston-Salem State both had 9-1 records heading into the championship.
I’m assuming both parties are a little right and a little wrong, only because that’s usually the case. However this situation has left majority of students at Virginia State University feeling as though the media is portraying the individuals involved, the school, the entire school, and even them personally in a negative light. The Virginia State University’s student body responded in a powerful documentary titled, “Trojan Nation Speaks.”
We applaud these students for coming together and creating one powerful & genuine voice. Instead of convene having a series of isolated individual conversations the student body decided to and open discussion began. The documentary leads off with Jahliel Thurman, SGA President clearly and articulately defining their position. On the eve of their final exam the student body banned together to deliver their uniformed and organized response.
