Black Man Brutally Attacked by Baltimore City Police at Nightclub
On the morning of Sunday, February 21, 24-year old Aaron Winston was enjoying a birthday celebration with friends when he was brutally attacked by a police officer. The incident occurred at the Mosiac Nightclub, part of the Power Plant Live! Venue in Downtown Baltimore.
Police records state that his friend was escorted out of the nightclub after reports of a dispute between him and a woman. Officers stated that he pushed the arresting officer, “trying to stop” his friend from being arrested. Winston also approached 3 officers, one of which he knew, questioning why his friend was dismissed from the club when one of the officers began attacking Winston, slamming him to the ground, choking him and bending his arm back—breaking it—so severely he needed surgery.
Winston received medical attention and was originally told no charges would be pressed against him, however, upon hospital release, he was arrested and told that he had multiple charges against him, including assault on an officer.
Rev. Cortly “C.D.” Witherspoon, a local activist who helped organized a protest and press conference on Thursday morning is urging the nightclub to release surveillance video of the incident. He is also asking anyone who recorded video of the incident to come forward with evidence.
