Charles Barkley Has Donated More Than $3 Million to HBCUs

The March 19 issue of Sports Illustrated is citing an unidentified source close to NBA great Michael Jordan who says he is "90 percent committed" to coming back next season. Jordan, currently president of basketball operations for the Washington Wizards, would reportedly be joined by Charles Barkley, now a television analyst, alongside on the court. Clark Atlanta University and Alabama A&M University has received huge gifts from NBA star Charles Barkley. Huge may be an understatement, Charles donated $1 million to each school.

Clark Atlanta had set a goal to raise $25,000 on Giving Tuesday, an online donation event birthed from the Black Friday and Cyber Monday phenomenon. (smart)

“This is a transformational gift to the institution and a true measure of Mr. Barkley’s commitment to advancing educational opportunities,” said Alabama A&M president Andrew Hugine Jr. His pledge marks the largest individual gift to Alabama A&M in the university’s 141-year history.

But it does not stop there last year, in June 2015 Charles also donated another $1 Million each to Morehouse College and his alma mater Auburn University as well as Wounded Warrior Project in Atlanta.

I know we all give Charles Barkley a hard time for some of the outlandish comments he makes on his show. But we can definitely get behind anyone who put’s his money where his mouth is. Charles has shown that he supports his community and he has done so much for HBCU’s. We salute him!!
