CL Poetry Jam is bringing back the culture of spoken word and poetry while introducing the rawness to our college readers. Each week we will take 1-minute submissions from current college students. Our host “Outspoken Bean” will introduce 3-5 new poets monthly and feature one seasoned poet each episode. CL Poetry Jam will initially air on CampusLATELY.com, YouTube and all @campuslately social media channels. CL Poetry Jam is paying homage to Russell Simmons, Def Poetry Jam which was a spoken word poetry television series hosted by Mos Def it aired on HBO between 2002 and 2007

General Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be in college (graduate or undergraduate)

Video Presentation: All candidates must submit a 1-minute video showcasing their art and poetry:

  • Videos will be judged on content, creativity, and execution

  • Videos are to be submitted using our form found on campuslatley.com (.wmv, .mov, & YouTube link)

Please note that the selected Finalists will be asked to sign a release from so that we may feature his or her video on our homepage.

About Our Host

Emanuelee “Outspoken Bean” started performing spoken-word in 2005. In his senior year at Prairie View A&M, Bean also founded and coached the University’s first poetry slam team. He is a performance poet, writer, compassionate mentor, electric entertainer, and an educator. Bean travels the country performing his original works and inspiring creative minds. That work ethic has taken him to Trinidad to Miami to South Dakota to Off-Broadway New York City and across the vast Houston Metropolitan where he inspires people from all walks of life to find and claim their voice. He is a 2011 Texas Poet Laureate nominee, ranked 9th in the Individual World Poetry Slam 2013, ranked 2nd in collaborative poetry at Group Piece Finals 2013 and, is ranked 11th at National Poetry Slam 2014 (both with Houston VIP).
