Identity Project Images Raise The Topic Of Black Representation In Pop Culture
The Identity Project is a Brazilian project idealized by Noemi Oliveira and Orlando Caldeira. The project raises the topic of black representation in pop culture and the lack thereof. The issue of representation in mainstream media is often discussed. The psychological effects of not seeing images that accurately represent you or people who look like you as the definition of beauty.
That’s what the Identity Project, photographic exhibition featuring popular icons (originally white) represented by black people, comes to question. Created by Noemia Oliveira and Orlando Caldeira and photographed by Guilherme Silva. They want to facilitate the recognition of black figure’s as powerful and beautiful.
