Issa Rae: Our New Covergirl
You may know Issa Rae from her typical day to day life as a black woman on her hit HBO series, Insecure. As we were waiting to see what is going to happen between her and Lawrence, Issa has hit us with a curveball and joined Covergirl as a spokes model.
Issa told Buzzfeed a story about her trying on a drugstore brand foundation before a party and it went all wrong. She explains how this moment inspired her to assist other girls interested in make-up to be able to find a shade that fits them too.
I remember being an awkward black girl in high school, reading the pages of my favorite magazines, casually flipping through @COVERGIRL ads, singing their slogan in my head. Never EVER in my life did I imagine I’d be one. I am SO honored and SO excited for what’s to come. Visit @COVERGIRL to learn more #COVERGIRLMADE
If you have been out of the loop and have not seen her before, Issa’s melanin is popping!
She is also known for her Youtube series Awkward Black Girl, but many people forget that she is a director and producer as well. Her memoir, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, was a best seller in 2015. It was in that same year, she was featured on the cover of Essence magazine. Her whole career has been dedicated to representing the African-American race in the best, most relatable way possible. The real question here is: is there anything that Issa can’t do?
“Becoming a CoverGirl means a lot because the brand recognizes just how important it is for people to embrace their individuality and express themselves in unique and diverse ways. This has been a major part of my personal journey, and a message that I want to share with others” she stated. Issa is spreading her Black Girl Magic for all to see.
