Student Walk To Change Street Name To Sandy Bland Parkway
On Tuesday August 25, 2015 at 4:27p.m., thousands of Prairie View students will join with the family and friends of Sandra Bland in a “W” to the City of Prairie View’s City Hall, where the council will vote on a measure to rename the main thoroughfare leading to Prairie View A&M University, Sandy Bland Parkway.
If the measure is adopted, the Prairie View community will make a powerful statement that #blacklivesmatter as they honor a young Black, unemployed female graduate of Prairie View, who died in a Waller County jail, under mysterious circumstances.
The “walk” will depart from the Memorial Student Center on the campus of Prairie View A&M University and proceed south (one mile) on University Drive to Business Highway U. S. 290 east, (1/4 mile) to the Prairie View City Hall.
The council action is the first item on the mayor’s agenda. The council meeting is called to order at 6:00p.m.
