Summer Summer Summertime… 2017 Trends To Look Forward To In Health, Beauty And More
Last Summer was the summer for glow kits, winged eyeliner, crazy crash diets and fitness plans, although these things are not yet out of style some new trends are slipping in to play as summer is quickly approaching us so, stay tuned as I dive into some new trends that have began to surface for 2017.
Fashion & Style
Some say diamonds are a girl’s best friends, but I think it’s safe to say heels are taking over that love affair with a fresh new look that even the beginner heel walkers can partake in. Chunky Heels and Denim heels are going to be a must have this summer. I saw my first pair of denim heel at Aldo back in March and ladies they are to die for. Simple, chic, and goes great with anything. Just like jeans you can dress them up or down without much effort. Now when it comes to Chunky Heels you might seem a little worried by the name, but coming from a girl who can’t walk in heels to save her life DON’T BE ALARMED they are a breeze to walk in and easy to find. With these two pairs of shoes in your closet this summer you’ll be ready for any date night, girls weekend, or just your regular old of running errands when you still want to look cute. Other trends in heels include the high heel sandals, mesh, strappy, ankle wraps and the stilettos which provide a sexier look when it comes to wearing heels.
Skirts are always a nice go to summer trend especially for hot summer days in the south. Through the years we have transitioned through high waist skirts, skater skirts, maxi skirts, and now back to the childhood favorites jean skirts. This was a trend that took me a minute to get used to when I noticed it creeping back into style this semester, because jean skirts were just never a thing for me, but if worn right they can surprisingly be really cute. Not only are jean skirts back in style they’ve come back with many variations as well, some have designs and patches, others have rips, some are high waist and some are mini skirts or flowy, so there’s definitely a bunch to choose from if jean skirts aren’t your cup of tea don’t throw the idea out the window just yet, see if you can find a style to fit you.
Health & Beauty
Natural is becoming the new norm with the shift from makeup >> skin care, big chops, taper fades for women and loving your body. Everywhere I turn on campus I see a young queen that has either chopped all her hair off, is transitioning, or let go of weave. Not saying that perms, and sew ins are gone forever but I definitely am noticing a shift in the norms of beauty. Not to mention make up is definitely not becoming an everyday thing for a lot of women anymore even with celebrities who are showcasing their natural beauty like Alicia Keys and the most recently featured in People’s Magazine 2017 World’s Most Beautiful Woman Issue, Danielle Brooks.
Even if you are a person who wears makeup or protective styles always remember to take care of whats underneath it all and preserve your natural beauty. Set up daily, weekly, monthly skin and hair care regimens that fit your budget. When trying out new products do your research and figure out what works best for you.
Food Food Food
As summer is approaching Street tacos and food trucks are becoming a big craze along with meal prepping and the all around favorite CRAWFISH ! In the summertime it’s all about scenery and eating fresh, so look up hot spots in your town to get some nice fresh and healthy meals, because what goes great with food (besides drinks) ENTERTAINMENT! So, don’t be a homebody this summer see whats cooking in your city and go on adventures. Whether it’s snow cones from the ice cream man or backyard grills, nothing beats summertime food.
Summer and Spring is the time for new beginnings in every area of your life. It’s the time to sit back relax and be stress free, especially for college students. So, pick up on those new trends and add your own personal flare because it’s summer time and we’re all invited to the cookout.
