Terrifying Poll Results: Almost 70% of Black Youth Experiences Harassment, Violence By Police
This poll will not only shock you but it may piss you off. Many of us live in fear for our lives and the lives of the one’s we love due to police violence. However, our youth and young adults are truly the vulnerable ones. Some officers have chosen not to see them as children. Somehow, when they pulled up on Tamir Rice in the setting most fitting for a child, a “playground”, they did not see his innocence, they only saw a threat.
GenForward surveyed 1,940 adults age 18-30 on July 9-20, using a sample drawn from the probability-based GenForward panel, which is designed to be representative of the U.S. young adult population. The were asked if they or someone they knew has experienced violence or harassment at the hands of the police. Check out the results below
About 6 in 10 young adults consider the killings of black people by the police and violence against the police as extremely or very serious problems, according to the poll. As you would have guessed though African Americans see the police attacking civilians as the greater concern. Where whites see people attacking police as the greater concern.
The survey was paid for by the Black Youth Project at the University of Chicago, using grants from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Ford Foundation.
