Thanks To Spelman Alum, Downtown L.A. Will Have Its First Chick-Fil-A

Chick-Fil-A is a fast food restaurant that many people consider to be like no other. It is known for having fresh food that’s always served with amazing customer service. The Chick-Fil-A dining experience is truly impeccable and thanks to Spelman alum Ashley Derby, downtown L.A. will have its very first Chick-Fil-A.

Ashley Derby is no stranger to the Chick-Fil-A family and actually started working there when she was just 15 years old. After Ashley graduated from high school, she continued her education at the divine Spelman College. Once in college, she kept working at Chick-Fil-A while managing to balance her Spelman course load. Originally, Ashley was a theater major but she made the switch to economics after one of her bosses pushed her to pursue a leadership opportunity within the company. Changing majors worked out extremely well for Ashley and by the age of 26, she became the youngest African American women to be a Chick-Fil-A franchise owner. Ashley has also previously won the Chick-Fil-A Symbol of Success award (an award that recognizes high sale growth) for the Chick-Fil-A she operated near the University Of Southern California.

Now Ashley is prepared to open a brand new Chick-Fil-A in downtown L.A. located at 660 South Figueroa Street. This will be downtown L.A.’s very first Chick-Fil-A! The 6,500-foot building is estimated to employ roughly 80 employees. If you’re ever in the downtown L.A. area be sure to stop by Ashley Derby’s Chick-Fil-A, show her love and support, and tell her CampusLately sent you!
