UNCF: Empower Me With $1.7 Million in Scholarships!
The United Negro College Fund’s Empower Me Tour kicked of September 22nd in Minneapolis.
The UNCF Empower Me Tour is a free, traveling college-and-career-readiness roadshow presented in partnership with Target. The tour was created nine years ago in tandem with Wells Fargo to inspire students to take control of their futures by pursuing a four-year college degree and graduating with an education that prepares them for the challenges they will face in the 21st century and beyond.
The Empower Me Tour provides the opportunity for thousands of high school and college students and recent college graduates to gain acceptance into undergraduate or graduate schools, earn scholarship funds and/or secure jobs and internships on location. Participants attend a series of presentations, panels and interactive workshops offered through two distinct tracks—a college-readiness program and a career-readiness program—to help them get successfully to and through college and obtain meaningful employment thereafter.
Participating students and parents will gain college-readiness information through a series of interesting and engaging workshops facilitated by subject matter experts that cover topics such as:
How to maximize the high school experience
College search and admissions process
The scholarship and financial aid processes
Student life on campus
The vital role and success of HBCUs
How to guide students during the college search process
The financial aid and scholarship process
How to support a student once he or she is in college
