“It’s really surreal,” said Lara.
The senior is one of four students in charge of making sure band members know their music, are on time and ready to go.
“It’s a dream come true to be honest,” said Lara. “it’s a blessing to have it come true,” said Lara.
He said he got in trouble a lot in the 6th grade and the school gave him two options. “It was either band or art,” said Lara.
He chose the piccolo — a small flute — and never looked back. Reported Arkansasmatters.com
“My passion for music just goes so deep. It is literally just my escape from my rough background and everything,” said Lara.
He said he chose UAPB because of its band. Band director, John Graham, Jr., said Lara has been showing leadership since his freshman year.
Lara said his new role isn’t easy. He has to maintain his 3.7 G.P.A., laundry and other duties any college student would have, but the Industrial Technology major said he wouldn’t have it any other way.
