Women Empowerment by Hampton University Student Mion Edwards

The #BlackGirlMagic hashtag strikes again, but this time it is shining a light on fashionista Mion Edwards. This black beauty from the DMV has a talent that will one day be a help to the masses.

” I always knew I wanted to help people so I intentionally wanted to be a nurse like my mom, but I realized that was not my passion, open-minds, entrepreneural” says Edwards when asked what she wanted to be when she was a young girl.

Mion is currently a junior at the prestigious Hampton University, working towards receiving her degree in broadcast journalism with an emphasis in marketing. Unlike most students, Ms. Edwards decided that just going to class was not enough. This young lady is definitely about her business.

Her ultimate goal is to be an inspiration to women across the world, but she knew it would have to start in her community. Edwards created her very first event called ‘Desserts & Discussions’ that gave other girls on her campus the opportunity to come together and “let their hair down”. The discussion is a judgment free zone where ladies can talk to one another about anything that comes to mind over sweets. The event is open to all women of every race and Edwards open minds.

During the summer of 2016, Mion decided to host her second event, but this time in her hometown of Washington, D.C. The setting was super dope. Ladies were able to not only have a discussion but were able to shop as well. These are the perfect events for Mion because it ties in both of her passions into one.

The ‘Styles by Mion’ brand is taking over and she is enjoying every minute of it. Her mission is “to create a new level of self-confidence in my clients through personal styling which creates greater personal and professional success”. No matter how highly we think of a person, everyone has their own insecurities.

Her business offers house call styling which includes creating outfits with pieces from your own closet. She is also willing to style you via FaceTime which is the true definition of entrepreneurial spirit. The styling that you see below are all women from her community, but Edwards says that she would love to style for guys as well.

You can check out her website stylesbymion.com, that offers a lookbook for the lost souls out there. Just like GQ magazine, Mion also has her daily “Outfit Of The Day” posts to give guidance for people who do not know what to wear for certain occasions.

Edwards tells Campus Lately that she is always going to be a fashion blogger, but wants to also become a verbal reporter in a newsroom or a reporter for a television network. You can follow her on Instagram @mionsade or @stylesbymion.
