Yvonne Orji – “The Wait is Sexy”
Yvonne Orji is a Nigerian Actress, she was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria and grew up in Maryland. As a child, she had a dream to be a stand- up comedian, but coming from a strong Nigerian background she put her dreams on hold until after receiving her Master’s degree in public health from George Washington University. She then moved to New York and pursued a career in comedy, and as they say, the rest is history. Yvonne is now a comedian, actress, writer, and the founder and owner of Rock Your Stance apparel.
Now, you may just know her as Molly from Issa Rae’s hit series Insecure on HBO and if you’ve watched the show and are familiar with her character’s promiscuity after I make this next statement two things are going to occur; either you’re going to understand that acting really is just acting or it might be a little hard for you to grasp your mind around it, but here it goes… Yvonne Orji is 33 years old and Abstinent. Yep, that’s right the same lady that plays molly is a virgin. I first found this out back in December when I saw her interview on the breakfast club:
Yvonne Most recently shared her journey and received a lot of praise when she hosted her very own Ted Talk in March. She cleared up common misconceptions about being a virgin or practicing the wait and kept it so authentic with her personality. So, I’m sure she left those that attended and all of those that streamed or watched with a lot of helpful gems whether they were waiting or not.
Her 5 Key Points That you can wait for in a relationship (other than sex) were:
The person who sees you for you … and loves you regardless
Wait on the one who sees value in what you value
Wait on purpose and not in fear
Wait on the one that makes you a priority
Wait on the one who meets your standards
Yvonne is authentically herself, funny, relatable, pure, and not pushy; all key elements of being a great advocate and role model, and being that I myself am 21 and abstinent she is definitely a person I am looking up to as a woman. You Go Girl !
