TORONTO – Canada Sports Tourism has presented the 110th Gray Cup Championship and the 2023 Gray Cup Festival with the Prestige Award as Canada's Event of the Year with a budget of more than $1 million.

A recent study by Sports Tourism Canada found that the 23 Gray Cup game and festival generated an economic impact of $73.5 million in Canada.

The Gray Cup was held in Hamilton last November, with the Montreal Alouettes earning a 28-24 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The RBC Canadian Open Golf Championship in Toronto, won by Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., and the Women's Alpine Skiing World Cup in Mont-Tremblant, Que., were among the other finalists.

The Prestige Awards are given annually to recognize exceptional sports tourism initiatives, games and multi-sport events.

“It is a true honor to be recognized by Canada Sports Tourism as the Canadian Event of the Year,” said Matt Avnick, President/CEO of Business Operations at Hamilton Sports Group.

“The Prestige Award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our fans, staff, volunteers, businesses and government partners to realize this bold vision.”
