40 million people have already voted in the United States

In the United States, the number of early and postal voters exceeded 40 million, 9 days before the presidential and congressional elections, according to election statistics.

By Sunday evening local time, 43.4 million votes had been collected, far more than a quarter of the total votes cast in the 2020 election. Four years ago, a total of 158 million voters exercised their citizenship rights.

Among the so-called decisive swing states regarding the presidential elections, the number of votes cast so far in Georgia and North Carolina is already close to 3 million votes, while 1.2 million votes have been cast in Pennsylvania and 1.6 million votes have been cast in Michigan.

According to election statistics, in the states of Georgia and North Carolina, as of Sunday, registered Republican voters constituted the majority of those who actually took advantage of the opportunity to vote. However, more registered Democrats voted in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

American voters can exercise their right to vote if they register. Registration is possible as a party member, but also as an independent. A registered voter's status as Democrat or Republican is not binding on the direction of the election.

Election rules vary by state in the United States, but most places allow early voting, meaning a limited number of polling places are open before Election Day. This is supplemented by postal voting, which you must register for in most places.

On Sunday, it was possible to vote in person or vote by mail in all but four of the 50 US states.
