According to the researchers, the new technology is expected to significantly increase the capacity of optical communications infrastructure, meeting the growing demand for future data services. Using Raman fiber amplifiers, the researchers achieved an optical bandwidth of 37.6 Hz. Through which a data speed of 402 TB/s was achieved.
The team investigated different amplification solutions to achieve higher-speed transmission over existing optical fibers. In collaboration with research partners, NICT has built the world’s first OU-band transmission system for wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) using commercially available standard optical fibers and custom amplifier technology. All of this could enable faster and better data transmission in the future.
