Sony has been sued for only being able to purchase PlayStation games digitally on the PS Store

A couple of years ago, Sony stopped selling PlayStation games in digital stores outside of the PS Store (such as Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart). No dealer can sell digital PlayStation games, only Sony’s exclusive. Now, however, the Bloombergs News has arrived that Sony will be sued for this decision.

The identity of the plaintiffs is not yet known, but it is known that this is a class action, that is, several people or companies have filed a lawsuit against the Japanese giant. The case is called Caccuri v Sony in a San Francisco district court. The lawsuit was filed under the title Illegal Monopoly Case, as PS games cannot be purchased digitally anywhere else due to Sony’s recall.

The lawsuit alleges that due to its monopoly location, Sony is pricing its digital games well above the competitive gamut, making them more expensive than the packaged copies sold to third-party retailers. The document also adds that the PS Store is also overpriced for games compared to third-party digital retailers.

According to Bloomberg, the document also states that the demand for digital games is 175 percent higher than the boxed versions. Sony’s artificial monopoly is antitrust and illegal.

Sony is not the only giant that has been sued for its monopoly position. The first public lawsuit between Epic and Apple began on Monday, as interesting information emerged.
