More than a hundred GP surgeries in the UK also started the coronavirus vaccination on Monday. The British issued a marketing authorization for the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine using a special off-waiting procedure and began their campaign last Tuesday, but in the first week the vaccines were given only in hospital vaccination centers.
Extension to the GP network is interesting from a logistical and organizational point of view, as the vaccine must be transported and stored at -70°, for example – and can be useful to us because we still don’t know anything about Hungary’s vaccination strategy and logistical solutions. (25 hospitals have been identified as primary vaccination points, registration for the vaccine is possible, but almost no information has been reported so far on the network through which the mass vaccination program is envisaged and the specific priority of population applicants).
In the UK, it is very clear order and communication: As a rule, vaccinations begin with people over 80 years old, but they do not have to inform the clinic, but the doctor will look for them and make an appointment with them. The physician may consider within the relevant group, for example, the preference of those whose health condition is considered to be more risky for infection.
Vaccinations must arrive at the agreed time, and the clinic must ensure sufficient distance, i.e. other arrivals cannot be approached in the waiting room. It is not possible to leave the office for 15 minutes after vaccination so that if someone becomes ill, they can be taken care of immediately.
Vaccines can be delivered up to three times, and GP surgeries receive vaccinations from hospital-based centers. One packet contains 975 servings and can be refrigerated after thawing, but you should use it all within three and a half days.
They want 1,200 GPs involved in the vaccination program in the coming weeks, but that is only possible if deliveries arrive in order. There are at least one million vaccinations in the country, but deliveries from the Belgian factory are said to be continuing.
