The United States leads smoothly, Hungary is the eighth – the eternal

The Rio Olympics are over, and in that vein, we’ve looked at what the eternal medal table looks like at the Summer Olympics. Unsurprisingly, the American team leads by a large margin, winning abroad more gold than coins in second place – although the ratings separately rank the USSR and Russia, the latter took 11th place under this name.

According to mob.hu records, Hungary won 168 gold, 148 silver and 170 bronze medals before the Rio Games, including two silver and four bronze medals at the Winter Games. In Rio, our tally was 8 golds, 3 silvers and 4 bronzes, i.e. 176, 149, 170 is the summer’s total (on this Wikipedia this is 175, 147, 169).

Wikipedia ranks the successors under different names separately on the permanent summer Olympic medal table, but the supremacy of the United States is still convincing.

Russia ranks 11th, collecting 147 gold in its current name, 395 seconds as the Soviet Union, but even 45 as a unified team at the 1992 Olympics, and of course let’s not forget any gold from Tsarist Russia.

The Germans are also over-represented, they can show 191 golds in their current name, the FRG can add another 56, but the unified German team also has 28 main positions. East Germany is also in the top 10 for 153 gold.
