Shocked, many Romanian workers returning from abroad faced a 14-day quarantine by the Public Health Directorate after entering the country, so some returned after driving more than a thousand kilometers.
The National Emergency Committee (CNSU) on Thursday updated the list of countries at risk of contracting the coronavirus, which it has re-listed, including Germany, making a two-week quarantine mandatory for those arriving from there. This can be reduced to 10 days by a negative PCR test no older than 72 hours, or it can be triggered by reliable evidence of disease transmission, or by taking two doses of the coronavirus vaccine at least ten days before entering the country.
Romanians working abroad, especially those working in Germany, who were not informed at the time of updating the list of so-called “yellow zone” countries, set out in good faith and were bribed at the entrance to Csanádpalota – the Nagylac border crossing.
Guest workers travel home on Orthodox Flower Sunday this weekend and Orthodox Easter next weekend. According to Digi24’s report, on Friday night, hundreds were crowded at the border crossing and described not being able to spend their vacation for a week or ten days – or even more time – in quarantine, so many people turned around and embarked on a journey of more than a thousand kilometers.
By the way, Romanian workers were a “victim” of improving epidemiological data in Romania. As the ratio of newly diagnosed infections to the population for two weeks halved in the past month (to 2.75 per thousand), a number of new countries, including Germany, the United States or Switzerland, entered the yellow zone on Thursday. CNSU places countries in this category where the proportion of people newly infected with the coronavirus has been higher than in Romania in the past two weeks.
Since Greece was also on the list, the CNSU also “crossed out” the account of those who thought they would spend the Easter holiday there, as Greek authorities announced that they would be waiting for Romanian tourists from April 16.
Authorities advise returning Romanian citizens to familiarize themselves with border crossing conditions before leaving. The list of countries classified as at risk is available from the Directorate of Public Health (INSP). website They can be browsed, but can also be viewed by clicking here.
