We love terrorizing teens, right? If we had a bunch of them, I’d love Stranger Things, which drew fondly from the ’80s blockbuster cliché and ironed it out. The success of the series is also supposed to be swept up in the Street of Fear trilogy, which Netflix plans to present in July this year with a difference of one week each, although it will be far more scary than humor or irony. It would be unfair, of course, to measure Fear Street only for Stranger Things (or that), as the film trilogy is based on the 1989 R.L. Stines success stories. Their titles speak for themselves: They Present July 2, Street of Fear Part 1: 1994, next July 9, Street Fear Part 2: 1978, Then Fear Street Story Part 3: 1666 Closes on July 16. The story takes place in different eras, but primarily in a small (fictional) town called Shadyside, Ohio, where teenage heroes encounter strange, supernatural and even horrific phenomena and secrets.
The plot of the first part unfolds in 1994, with teenagers making the discovery. The second part takes us back to 1978, and in this camp called Camp Nightwing will be the main place where campers from Shadyside and Sunnyvale can fear horrors similar to the heroes of the first movie. The concluding episode takes place in 1666, and the good old witch hunt comes to its center, although we go back to 1994 and 1978 as well.
So an old movie trio that evokes many of the classics (like Scream, Twin Peaks, It, and of course Friday the 13th) will be The Street of Fear trilogy. All three works are directed by Leigh Janiak (The Honeymoon), the scripts were recorded by Phil Graziadei (also The Honeymoon), and the New Universe story was reworked by Kyle Killen (The Beaver) and Zak Olkewicz (When the Light Goes Out). The main roles are Kiana Madeira (Dina), Olivia Welch (Samantha), Benjamin Flores Jr (Josh), Julia Rewald (Kate), Fred Heckinger (Simon), Sadie Sink (Ziggy), Emily Rudd (Cindy), played by Ryan Simpkins (Alice), McCabe Sly (Tommy), Ashley Aukerman (Nick, Sheriff) and Gillian Jacobs (C. Berman).
