Opposition activist Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara, who has been in need of treatment for nearly four weeks, was discharged from hospital in Cuba on Monday because he had previously protested a hunger strike and had not taken fluids.
The hospital learned that the 33-year-old opposition figure had made a full recovery, with all her values in the normal range. However, Alcantara supporters previously questioned the hospital’s statements because when it was handed over on May 2, they issued a statement stating that the activist showed no sign of malnutrition and was in stable condition, apparently not at all hungry.
Otero Alcantara has now stated that he did not receive any information at the hospital, so he now needs to find out what happened while he was inside and then be able to comment on how he experienced the treatment. US officials and human rights activists alike have announced that the opposition activist is a political prisoner they believe is being monitored by the SSI in the hospital. According to Havana, the opposition activist is a mercenary of the United States.
“We will continue to fight,” Otero Alcantara declared when he left the hospital. The activist artist is a member of the San Isidro group that has been demonstrating for years against restrictions on freedoms in Cuba.
