McLaren boss Andreas Seidl doesn’t think it’s right, thanks to his Formula 1 penalty points rules, that Lando Norris took just two units of a one-sprinter suspension penalty. The German is upset about the punishment of his rider in the Austrian Grand Prix
Judges found him guilty at the Austrian Grand Prix of slimming. The two riders competed head-to-head in the first cycle of the race.
In addition to his 5-second penalty, Norris is also enriched with two penalty points, so he already has 10 units next to his name, putting him just two points away from the one-race ban.
The good news for the British youth is that two out of ten points will expire before the next British Grand Prix due to the 12-month rule. However, his team, McLaren, is not happy with the situation.

Norris: Save penalty points in dangerous situations
Andreas Seidl, Woking’s team boss, said the penalty points system should be reviewed. According to the German expert, it is not right that someone like Norris is about to be banned thanks to some innocent maneuvering.
“I think we should review the system,” Seidl began. “I think we can all agree that an issue like this shouldn’t lead to the possibility of a ban.”
Seidl also disagreed that Norris’ maneuver against Perez was ever punishable, especially since former Formula 1 driver Derek Warwick was on the judging panel.
“I think we want to see such a fight during the races. I think Lando did everything well, plus we were at the start of the race when everyone was still fighting for positions.”
“He didn’t do anything stupid, he didn’t throw or anything. He was next to Chico, maybe even before. I really don’t understand the decision.”
“I also don’t understand that the previous riders on the jury, who know exactly what’s going on in the first round of the race, can agree with him. I’ll wonder what Michael will say. [Masi, versenyigazgató] In this regard.
Norris had previously been punished in Baku for not driving into the penalty area for the first time despite a red flag. Then Massey coined it this way, riders have been familiar with this rule since the karts were played. Thinking about this, Seidl now pointed out that this isn’t the only rule a kart racer knows.
“In Michael’s words, even kart riders already know that if you try the outside corner in the first round of the race, you will end up in the gravel bed. You can’t complain about who ran the perfect turn.”
“It’s a shame because there’s a good chance he went second, and thanks to the two penalty points, Lando came close to being suspended.”
“We need to look at whether the current scoring system is correct,” the McLaren boss concluded.
