Homcsak is now the Senior Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (RNBO).
According to Presidential Spokesman Serhiy Nikiforov, Zelensky does not doubt Hamchak’s “patriotism, loyalty to his department and professionalism, but wants to see better cooperation between the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces”. So far, unfortunately, we have seen the opposite. He also said that with the new appointment of Humchak, the deputy The first to RNBO’s secretary, Mihajlo Koval, is to resign.
Homechak has held the position of Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since May 21, 2019, and as of March 27, 2020, he is appointed Commander-in-Chief of Zelensky. His successor, Valery Zaluzhny, according to the UNIAN news agency, from 2007 to 2009 was the first deputy commander of the 24th mechanized brigade in Gavorev, Lviv Province, Western Ukraine. Then he became the military commander of the 51st mechanized brigade. From 2018 to 2019, he was the first deputy commander of the joint forces operation, and in December 2019 he was appointed head of the Northern Regional Operational Command of the Front Line in the Donetsk Basin.
In February 2018, the Donetsk Basin Reintegration Law in Ukraine entered into force, designating Russia as an aggressive state and settlements under separatist control as temporarily occupied territories. By law, the operation, hitherto called Counterterrorism, was converted into a soldier and renamed Operation Combined Forces.
UNIAN noted that the presidential decree on replacing Homchak and dismissing Zaluzhny had not yet been issued at the time of the briefing. For press interest, Zelensky’s press secretary called this issue a purely “technical issue” and assured him that the relevant regulations would be published soon.
