Volánbusz bid for 100 electric buses in the Green Bus program in the spring, the first forty of which have already arrived. It was presented to the general public at Hungexpo on Tuesday. Buses are expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2022 in the Budapest agglomeration. In the future, the same buses will operate in Székesfehérvár, Győr, Zalaegerszeg, Eger, Szolnok and Szeged instead of aging vehicles with an environmental protection rating, the company wrote in its statement.
In parallel with the acquisition of buses, the infrastructure for charging new vehicles will also be built; Mobiliti Volánbusz, a partner in the Volánbusz consortium, will install approximately 100 filling stations in a total of seven locations. But bus testing will begin as early as September, and the company will also carry out passenger transportation tasks related to the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress.
Mercedes eCitaro’s single- (non-articulated), low-floor, two-axle buses can carry 28 seats and 50 standing passengers and cover approximately 240 kilometers on a single charge.
Air-conditioned vehicles have space for a wheelchair or stroller, a boarding ramp, an electronic passenger information system, an on-board camera system and drivetrain, and 13 USB chargers. As the buses will operate on Volan Bus services integrated into the metropolitan system, they will be blue and the Traffic Management System and the Passenger Information System (Courier) will be on the on-board display. Their charging infrastructure is also being built.
