Lego group sales rose 46 percent to DKK 23 billion (1,111 billion HUF) in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2020, MTI said. Operating profit was DKK 8 billion, up 104 percent from the first half of 2020, and net profit increased by 140 percent to DKK 6.3 billion.

The result was boosted by strong demand for the company’s new range of products, as well as the fact that they faced fewer restrictions compared to the previous year due to the pandemic, said Nils P. Christiansen, the company’s chief executive. Strong financial performance allows us to accelerate investments in sustainability and digitization.

The group opened more than 60 new stores for the brand in the first half of 2021, 40 of them in China. However, by the end of June, the company had 737 stores.

Founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen in Billund, Denmark, the Lego group is named after the Danish words Leg Godt, which means “play well”. The group is a privately owned family business today, selling its products in more than 130 countries around the world.

The company set up a subsidiary of a Hungarian factory in Nyíregyhaza in 2008, currently producing Lego and Duplo toys with around 2,500 employees.
