Prime News – New camera from Panasonic

Panasonic has announced the launch of a new interchangeable box-style lens, the LUMIX DC-BS1H Mirrorless. As the name suggests, the LUMIX BS1H is a versatile box camera that combines the cinematic video performance of the LUMIX S1H with an easy-to-deploy box design. With a 24MP full-frame image sensor using Dual Native ISO technology, the LUMIX BS1H has expanded its capabilities with 6K full-frame shooting, stunning bokeh effects, low-light performance, 14+ gears, wide dynamic range, V-Log and more.

With versatile connectivity and portability, users have the flexibility to always choose to configure their BS1H camera according to the situation. When used with other Panasonic LUMIX cameras, such as the BGH1 mini four-quarter camera or the S1H full-frame, mirrorless cinema camera, post-production requirements are minimal due to the uniform appearance of the images.

Cinematic-quality video recording with a 35mm full-frame image sensor

The BS1H features a 35mm full-frame CMOS image sensor with a resolution of 24.2MP (35.6mm x 23.8mm). With an active resolution of 6.024 x 4.016, BS1H delivers approximately 24.2 million unique pixels. OLPF (Optical Low Pass Filter) removes false colors and moire. The Dual Native ISO sensor in the BS1H reduces noise generation by selecting the optimal sensitivity range before gain processing. This is accompanied by the optimal signal processing of the Venus engine, which achieves high sensitivity to light and the lowest noise levels up to ISO 51200.

The LUMIX BS1H takes full advantage of the pixels in the full-frame image sensor to capture smooth 6K/24p (3:2) or 5.9K/30p (16:9) HD video. Additionally, 10-bit 60p 4K/C4K HEVC video recording is available when using a Super 35mm equivalent image area. In the 4:2:2 10-bit 4K30p format, H.264 compression can be used to record the entire region. The high-resolution data can also be used to record 4K videos with better image quality or to crop 4K photos.

Dynamic range refers to the range of brightness that a digital camera can handle. The LUMIX BS1H offers 14+ dynamic range with V-Log, nearly identical to what Panasonic film cameras offer, so you can accurately capture everything in both dark and light spaces.

Accurate display of color fidelity and skin tone is fundamental to filmmakers. The LUMIX BS1H inherits the acclaimed colorimeter of VariCam cinema cameras. The LUMIX BS1H captures a wide range of dynamics and color with the V-Log / V-Gamut. V-Log provides flat images, but keeps all the color data in the image. This allows more room for creative adjustments during post-production. The LUMIX BS1H CMOS image sensor handles a wide color stroke (V-series). This is the ideal color space for BS1H, and it is wider than BT.2020. The characteristics of the V-Log curve evoke the negative film and the V-Gamut, which provides a larger color space than the film.

In addition, the camera records videos with a specific gamma curve, which is compatible with ITU-R BT.2100, and users can now choose Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) [Photo Stlye]/[Fotóstílus] Adjust.

The LUMIX BS1H provides real-time target recognition with advanced deep learning, allowing focus to accurately track people or animals in formation even when they are moving quickly.

Wide range of recording formats, aspect ratios and resolutions up to 6K

LUMIX BS1H can provide up to 4:2:2 10-bit 4K 60p/50p HDMI output. A new heat dissipation design allows a variety of recording formats to be set to meet professional needs, including 4:3 Anamorphic mode.

In addition, BS1H offers two alternatives to RAW sessions to better serve diverse creative needs. [5.9K] / [4K] / [Anamorphic (4:3) 3.5K] 12-bit RAW video data output via HDMI connection to save Apple ProRes RAW format to Atomon Ninja V or Blackmagic RAW format to Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR Recorder.

– For RAW data transfer, V-Log or V709 can be selected on live screen via SDI.

– Among the photo assist functions, V-Log View Assist, WFM (Wave Form Monitor), Vector Scope, Luminance Spot Meter and Zebra Pattern can be used in RAW output mode.

With VFR (Variable Frame Rate), users can capture slow-motion or fast-motion video in C4K/4K (60 fps, up to 2.5x slow motion at 24p) and FHD (180 fps, up to 7.5x slow motion at 24p) 24p) res. For fast video, the minimum speed of the camera is two frames per second. In addition, HFR (High Frame Rate) video and audio can be recorded when AF is used. During post-production, various effects are available for slow motion shooting.

LUMIX BS1H uses a new type of heat dissipation that provides unlimited recording time. The camera body is made of aluminum and magnesium alloy to make it light and durable.

To meet the growing demand for streaming, BS1H also offers an IP Streaming feature that allows you to stream images to social sites in high quality using a PC and a wireless LAN connection. The LUMIX BS1H can stream 4K 60p (50p) video in H.265 format. H.265 provides half the bit rate of H.264 while maintaining the last image quality. This means that H.265 provides twice the image quality with the same bit rate as H.264. Thus, with a low bitrate, even with a low bandwidth, it is possible to stream ultra-high-resolution 4K content.

Versatile connectivity offers unlimited possibilities

The aluminum-magnesium frame allows the LUMIX BS1H to be a compact, lightweight but durable box-style camera with a number of connectivity ports. USB 3.1 Type-C, 3G-SDI (BNC), and HDMI Type-A ports can also provide simultaneous output. The Genlock IN (BNC) and Timecode IN/OUT functions also allow simultaneous recording from multiple angles. Thanks to this, you can even build a system that can be expanded using external monitors, rigs and axles made by other manufacturers. When connected to a LAN, Power over Ethernet + (PoE +) provides easy physical and electrical setup. You can control up to 12 LUMIX BS1H cameras using the Panasonic LUMIX Tether for Multicam PC software. The LUMIX BS1H includes two SD memory card slots, so you can backup or switch between recordings.

You can enjoy even more benefits using the BS1H with LUMIX S lenses. With LUMIX S lenses with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) technology, Boost IS (video) image stabilization and excellent AF/AE control are available.
