Marvel Studios’ newest full-length movie, The Eternals, hit theaters this week, featuring Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden and Gemma Chan, among others. Friday didn’t even start out badly, with $30.7 million flowing into the coffers, defeating even the Shang-Chi and Ten Rings legend a year ago.
However, it must also be quickly added that based on feedback from audience premieres over the weekend, Eternals only received a “B” rating on CinemaScore, which isn’t good at all for the MCU. For example, the aforementioned Shang-Chi got an “A”, but even the Black Widow closed with an “A-“. Furthermore, looking outside the MCU, but still with the comics, Wonder Woman 1984, Birds of Prey, Venom and its sequel all received “B+” from viewers, which is a worrying sign for the rest.
Maybe we should expect a relatively big drop from the Eternals in the coming weeks because his oral traditions are weak? Sure enough, even though he started the weekend better, he ended up falling short of Shang Qi’s level. Plus, the length of the movie doesn’t help either, given its ample 2.5-hour runtime, it can hold fewer shows per day than Venom 2. – the bloodshed of just over an hour and a half. Criticism doesn’t really help either, so a word like a hundred: Chloe Chow’s movie is having tough weeks.
As for the others, Dunes slipped back into second place, down nearly 50%, better than last week. But we’re sure it wouldn’t have been a good idea to have the movie’s cinematic performance immediately available on HBO Max either. James Bond also managed to maintain his podium, but that’s the bare minimum of a man of this caliber who has cost so much to the producer’s studio… The biggest loser of the weekend was Killer Halloween, who fell five places. In vain, Halloween was last weekend… Spencer, starring Kristen Stewart, reached the top ten, producing a modest $2.1 million show. This is arguably average for a movie of this caliber (during the coronavirus pandemic, of course).
