Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama will vote yes if a referendum is held on the unification of Albania and Kosovo, uractive Referring to the Albanian portal Exit.al.
Rama spoke about this at a joint meeting between the Albanian government and Kosovo held last week in Elbasan. Responding to a question from journalists, the Prime Minister indicated that he did not know when and how a referendum on the subject could be held in the future.
The background to the questions posed to Edi Rama is that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said last week that he would vote in favor of a possible referendum on integration if it were conducted in a democratic and peaceful manner.
Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said this sparked a sharp reaction in Belgrade, as Kurti’s statement undermines stability and security in the region.
According to a current article by Euractiv, the Kosovo leader also said that the referendum would be part of a long process beyond the purview of his government.
The article also notes that according to a Euronews Albania survey, 80 percent of Albanians would support the reunification of their country and Kosovo.
At the joint government meeting, it was agreed to abolish the de facto border between the two countries, ease investigations into the transportation of goods, and enable the citizens of each to work or settle in the other country.
