Hormonal changes can trigger the pathological process.

Why Alzheimer’s disease is such a significant risk to women has long been a mystery. Changes in estrogen levels have previously been suspected to be the cause. The nature According to a recent study published in the journal, the key to secrecy is the follicular maturation hormone.

The Emory University School of Medicine in the United States and the Chinese Academy of Sciences found that female hormones play a major role in the development of amyloid deposits and tau nodules responsible for the development of neurodegenerative diseases.

Increased levels of follicle maturational hormone (FSH) during menopause have been shown to speed up the formation of protein plaques by acting directly on neurons in the brain.

In some experiments in mice, Alzheimer’s disease was observed in FSH when injected. In another experiment, female mice had their ovaries removed and given anti-FSH antibodies, which reduced disease-specific processes.

Caused by forgetfulness and mental decline that cannot be cured today, Alzheimer’s disease affects 50 million people worldwide today. Two-thirds of them are women.

As research continues, experts will attempt to discover the link between FSH and a genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s disease, which will help understand who is most at risk of developing the disease.
