The cybersecurity company may have leaked from Microsoft.

Google announced its acquisition of Mandiant, a cybersecurity company, for $5.4 billion.

Mandiant, even under its previous name, FireEye, has become widely known for discovering large-scale hacker actions involving US government agencies. Incidentally, Mandiant also became the property of FireEye in 2013 for $1 billion. However, the company later sold the FireEye brand and its products with some relocation to focus on the Mandiant’s original cybersecurity expert area.

Mandiant will enhance Google’s cloud service after the acquisition and provide cybersecurity advice to corporate clients.

Many organizations around the world face unprecedented cybersecurity challenges as they are threatened by sophisticated and dangerous attacks that previously only affected major government agencies. We look forward to welcoming Mandiant to the Google Cloud and providing more security and advice to our customers.

Thomas Kurian, director of cloud services at Google, said in a statement.

One of the interesting things about the acquisition is that it was leaked months ago that Microsoft would buy the company. Not only has Google boosted its business, but it has also scored points against rival cloud provider Microsoft.
