With the support of the government, the renewal of the existing fleet of Balatoni Hajózási Zrt will continue. (BAHART).
As they write, BAHART will acquire two 45-meter ferries and two 35-meter boats for about HUF 57 billion thanks to a state capital increase of 6.6 billion. The proceeds from the sale of real estate will cover the continuing developments. According to the NGO, one of the ferries – the first of a new ship – was recently launched at the manufacturer’s plant in Komarom.
They add that installation work will continue on the water after which service trials will begin. In April, one of the boats will be launched and the preparation of ships for transportation will begin.
Since the new vehicles cannot be transported to Sión in their fully assembled state due to their size, they will be completed on Lake Balaton. Ferries will operate between Szántódrév and Tihanyrév, while boats will run between Siófok, Balatonfüred and Tihany, as well as on the Fonyód-Badacsony route.
Earlier, the index also reported that the turnover of scheduled vessels increased by nearly 21 percent last year compared to the previous year. According to Bhart, passenger traffic on ferries on Lake Balaton has also peaked, with the total number of passengers approaching two million. This year’s balaton sailing season begins at Easter.
