State spokesperson Martin Strechnik told TASR news agency that Zuzana Shaputova will represent Slovakia at the NATO summit, and the head of state will travel to Madrid on Tuesday. The summit is scheduled to end on Thursday (30 June).
“This is one of the most important summits held in recent times, and its main theme will be the impact of Russian aggression in Ukraine on the security of Europe and, of course, Slovakia,” Strechnik said. He added that the leaders of member states will discuss how to respond to the new security policy situation, and the topic will be the further strengthening of NATO’s eastern wing.
In addition, the spokesman added, NATO is expected to adopt its new ten-year strategic plan. “All these discussions also serve the security of Slovakia,” he added.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will join the NATO Online Summit, with the participation of the candidate countries Finland, Sweden, Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Strechink said that for the first time, leaders from Australia, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand will be present at the NATO summit.
