Millions of Galaxy phones and Australian users may be affected by a misleading advertising campaign, which is why Samsung now has to get deep into its pockets.

Australian Galaxy owners who believed what they saw in the commercials could be furious. Samsung launched a marketing campaign between March 2016 and October 2018 in Australia. He posted nine ads on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, his own website and even in his physical stores that showed that some Galaxy phones (S7, S7 Edge, A5 (2017), A7 (2017), S8, S8 Plus and . the sea.

This wasn’t quite right, and the victims realized it. Samsung Australia itself has acknowledged that if Galaxy phones are submerged in a pool or sea water, there is a risk that the charger connector will rust and lock if the phone is still charged when wet. According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), Samsung Australia’s water resistance claims are a significant selling point for these Galaxy phones, of which at least 3.1 million units have been sold.

The ACCC chief argued that “many consumers who bought the Galaxy phone were already exposed to misleading ads before they bought the new phone,” adding that Samsung Australia’s parent company, Samsung Electronics, had already launched Galaxy phones. and sought to mitigate the effects. from corrosion of fillers due to shipping after contact with water.

However, Samsung’s marketing campaign in Australia has promoted the use of Galaxy phones in swimming pools and sea water, while there is still a chance that Galaxy phones will be damaged by corrosion. Hundreds of consumer complaints have been reviewed that have reported problems with Galaxy phones after being exposed to water, in many cases even shutting down completely.

At the ACCC, the penalty is thought to be a powerful reminder to companies that all claims made about a particular product must be proven. Samsung Australia is willing to pay the fine, and users who repair it will repair/replace their phone for free.
