Russia and the United States may close their embassies

According to the diplomat, none of the members of the US government suggested the move, which is likely to happen if it is not possible to maintain safe operations.

The US ambassador to Russia, John Sullivan, said in a recent interview that it was “quite likely” that the Russian and US embassies would be closed, although in his opinion that would be a “big mistake”.

He added that despite this, it would be “difficult to find anyone” in Washington who would have proposed the closure, as this would only happen if safe operation could no longer be guaranteed.

Then he referred to the Russian government’s “hawk letter”, which it uses in the field of diplomatic relations, since Moscow had hinted earlier that the American and Russian sides might reach a point where relations could be completely broken off. tast.

However, Sullivan believes the suggestions are exaggerated, while emphasizing that this is not the intention of the US government. He then stated that at this point “we have nothing to talk about anymore”, three months later, which in his view indicates a “completely changed relationship” between the two parties.
