The USSF explained in a statement: The two collective agreements are valid through 2028.
USSF President Cindy Barlow Kohn highlighted the historic agreement that will forever change the sport in the United States and has the power to change it around the world.
On behalf of the Women’s National Team Players Association (USWNTPA), President Becky Sauerbrunn said: The settlement reflects the achievements of the national team players on and off the field. The 36-year-old Sauerbronn played 202 matches for the national team.
The agreement was reached a few months after the former Soviet Union discussed it with dozens of footballers, including superstar Megan Rapinoe. In 2019, footballers sued the organization for unequal financial benefits. At the end of the discussions, the USSR agreed that in the future players of the women’s national team would receive the same salaries as men.
With four world championships (1991, 1999, 2015, 2019) and four Olympic gold medals (1996, 2004, 2008, 2012), the US women’s team is the most successful in the discipline.
