Snapdragon chips will power Galaxy flagships globally starting with the Galaxy S23. However, the statements seem to leave some room for maneuver.
We’ve been hearing rumors for a while now that Samsung might be ditching its flagship Exynos chipset in favor of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon. Qualcomm used its call for the third quarter of fiscal year 2022 to announce that it will operate Samsung’s flagship phones worldwide as part of a broad agreement.
“Snapdragon will power the Galaxy family of products, the flagship Galaxy products” – said Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, in response to a question asked during the earnings call.
“And now I can say we were 75% on the Galaxy S22 before the deal. We’d be much better with the Galaxy S23 and beyond. This is a multi-year agreement. That’s all I can say for now.” Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said during the conversation. Qualcomm also noted in its press release about the deal that Snapdragon silicon “powers more premium Samsung devices around the world.”
Amon’s 75% score indicates the percentage of Galaxy S22 series phones that shipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. The remaining 25% of S22 devices are powered by the Exynos 2200 internal processor.

There’s room for interpretation in Qualcomm’s data, which suggests we’ll see Snapdragon-powered Galaxy flagships in many other regions, but we’re not saying explicitly that it will power all variants.
Anyway, the news comes as part of a bigger deal between Samsung and Qualcomm. According to the chip maker, the deal includes a patent licensing agreement for 3G, 4G, 5G and 6G technologies. Qualcomm adds that the deal also means that Samsung will expand the use of Snapdragon silicon into categories such as computers, tablets, augmented reality, and more.
