Intel this week – in an Asian briefing – betrayed him, when the next version of the Wi-Fi standard, which guarantees transmission twice as fast as before, could appear in the chipsets it produces – and thus in devices based on it. According to them, we will have to wait about two more years for this – the company plans to announce its first platform that supports only Wi-Fi 7 at the end of 2024.
This is not surprising given the fact that the Wi-Fi Alliance, which developed it, plans to finalize the new standard, officially known as “802.11be”, only by the end of 2024. Although some manufacturers usually come out with their products that support the new specifications even earlier (for example, H3C already introduced a Wi-Fi 7 router last month), you may encounter compatibility issues or defects if the final version of the specification cannot be compensated for in the software. It also differs from the case on which it was developed.
In addition, it will take time for the technology to start spreading, because users will only replace their devices that support previous versions. Thus, most people will be able to exploit the capabilities of Wi-Fi 7 only at the peak of 2025-2026, since by that time it is likely to be present in a large number of mobile phones and wireless network adapters.
