Mobile phones with 1GB of RAM can’t be updated to Android 13

Google has updated the official system requirements with Android 13, and now 1GB of RAM is not enough, even for the Go version specially made for weaker phones.

Fortunately, there is no longer a shortage of RAM in new Android mobiles, 6 GB is the norm even in the mid-range, but it rarely falls below 4 GB. Devices with 1GB of RAM have almost completely disappeared from the range, and we’re not really having it even at the entry level, so it’s no surprise that Google is also raising the requirements.

Google requires it now Phones must have at least 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage spaceOtherwise, the mobile services of the search giant, that is, GMS, cannot run on it. Of course, the requirement will not be applied retroactively, which means that the Play Store and Gmail will not disappear from previous mobiles equipped with 1 GB of RAM. On the other hand, those devices that already come with Android 13 from the factory must comply with or have been updated to it.

Interestingly, the same is required for the simplified Android Go, which previously worked even with 512MB of RAM, but of course not very smoothly.
