Tamas Freund, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), and Gyorgy Vashigi, President of the Hungarian Academy of Arts (MMA), signed a letter of strategic cooperation on Wednesday in Budapest, at the headquarters of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
In his speech, Minister of Culture and Innovation Janos Csak called it a great honor to welcome the signing of the agreement on behalf of the government. The MMA President, emphasizing the relationship between art and science, spoke of the fact that although public opinion often desires to separate these areas, it is only a matter of different points of view, not their opposition. He emphasized that art and science are also inseparable in the life of the MMA, and that the signing of the cooperation agreement is a milestone in the life of the institutions.
According to the letter of intent signed on Wednesday, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Arts will cooperate in order to promote the birth of outstanding and world-class Hungarian scientific and artistic achievements, make them widely known, and enrich cultural life.
Among the goals is to encourage and support art programs and other initiatives organized by the departments of MMA and departments of the Széchenyi Academy of Literature and Arts (SZIMA), which operates as an independent body linked to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Within the framework of the collaboration, the Hungarian Museum of Scientific Works (MTMT) will be further developed in order to document the professional results of creative and performing artists who teach, research and obtain degrees in higher education institutions according to criteria appropriate to the established criteria. Among the objectives is to explore the theoretical aspects and practical conditions of art education in order to apply it in local public education and to present its benefits to decision-makers, educators and the public.
