Ryanair’s Budapest-Manchester flight landed in London on the evening of December 16.
A 24.hu reader reports that the plane was originally supposed to take off from Liszt Ferenc International Airport at 9:45 pm, but that did not happen. Passengers received three consecutive messages about the delay, but no food, refreshments, or further information.
Several people lay on the ground awaiting developments, until they took off five hours late at 2:30 am on December 17.
The flight was supposed to land in Manchester around four o’clock in the morning, but the biggest surprise for the passengers was that the pilot brought them to London, and they claimed that they only found out after disembarking.
In London, they received information that they were to be taken to Manchester by bus, so they were expected to arrive there around 10 am. Instead, they end up taking a taxi to their original destination. For example, a 24.hu reader arrived at Manchester Airport around 9:30 am.
We contacted Ryanair about the incident to find out what caused the disruption. And they wrote in their response:
Our Budapest to Manchester flight was delayed due to unfavorable weather in the UK, which was a cause completely beyond our control. As a result, the plane was unable to land in Manchester, so it landed at London’s Stansted Airport.
They added: In the interest of passengers, Ryanair immediately offered an alternative travel option between Stansted Airport and Manchester by long-distance buses and taxis. They also reported that those who organized their trip themselves would eventually be reimbursed for these costs.
