Although, according to Sony, it doesn’t matter whether you keep the console upright or lying down, due to a recently discovered design flaw, it might be best to put the PS5 down.
When Sony unveiled it Playstation 5 design, immediately led to the division of society. Some think it’s cool that they broke away from the traditional black cube experience, while others think their portable router/air conditioner is downright ugly, and they’re annoyed by the fact that it’s asymmetrical.
Most people keep the console upright (and some even put it, incorrectly, without the base, upside down), but according to the manufacturer, it doesn’t matter in which position it’s used, the hardware and cooling are designed to be effective in both positions.
At the same time, in recent months, many service centers have encountered faulty and unbootable consoles, which, after disassembling them, notice a strange error phenomenon.
The problem is caused by the liquid metal used to cool the APU, which can squirt out of place due to the heat and vibration generated, causing the controller to short circuit. You can watch the problem in 13 minutes in the video below:
This phenomenon can occur as a result of a strong impact (for example, if someone dropped the console), but more and more people are reporting that nothing like this happened, they simply used the PS5 in a standing position.
Based on the increasing number of similar reports, we can conclude that it is safer to use the console in a lying position, since the liquid metal spread horizontally cannot flow to other components.
