Whoever missed it, lost it! How do you gain a competitive advantage using artificial intelligence? This will also be discussed at the Wallet Digital Transformation Conference on May 3!
Translation company Translated, which presented its calculations at the Machine Translation Association of the Americas conference, said it first began testing its machine translation technology in 2011. The team agreed on a metric for measuring AI progress they called “time to edit” (TTE). This represents the time it takes a human to edit a translation created by another human or AI.
TTE is expected It will drop to a second one in the next few years, thus approaching the point where the machine actually performs a perfect translation. The team also highlighted other indicators of AI performance, such as language errors per 1,000 words translated. Currently, AI makes about 50 errors for every 1,000 words translated. But the researchers expect this to improve at the same rate as TTE, she says IFL Science.
The team believes that the ability to translate, which is a complex machine task, is a good measure of when a technology might enter a state of singularity with humans.
Many AI researchers believe that solving language problems related to translation is the closest thing to creating artificial general intelligence (AGI).
– writes the team. “This is because natural language processing is by far the most complex problem we face in AI.”
The term singularity that researchers use in this context means equal to humanand may refer to artificial general intelligence rather than the point at which technology advances beyond human control.
One popular version of the idea of the singularity is the “explosion of intelligence”, when artificial intelligence is able to improve itself better and better with each generation cycle, so that after a while it will surpass human intelligence.
At the same time, it is important to note that the presence of language capabilities alone does not give machines self-awareness, and language models are only so good at predicting texts they are just unable to understand them.
