TikTok is urging the introduction of data protection measures as many government agencies have banned the use of the app in their organizations citing a risk to national security.
The European Parliament, the European Commission, and the Council of the European Union have all banned TikTok from their employees’ devices, and the app has also been banned from US government devices.
In the United States, lawmakers are considering legislation that would ban the platform nationwide.
Last December, the US Senate had already passed a law partially banning TikTok, and a US Democratic senator called for the app to be removed from the Google and Apple stores, citing a national security risk. In February, the European Commission banned its employees from using the TikTok app, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, either on company devices or on personal devices included in its mobile service.
