Usually the story revolved around smaller rooms and cellars, but now, precisely, a man has found the entrance to a gigantic city as he goes lower and lower. A lot of branching passages followed, and it finally turned out to be an eighteen-story underground city, where more than 20,000 people could live. And all this opened directly from his basement.
In any case, the city was called Derinkuyu, was probably built sometime in the 4th century, has been constantly evolving and covers approximately 445 square kilometers today. At first, the underground chambers were probably only used for storage by the people living nearby, and later they were able to settle here because of their protective function.
