Season 4 of the series has topped the global Netflix show charts for two weeks, so it’s no surprise that announce Season five as well. What could fans be less happy about: This is the end of the story of Joe, the lovable (?) psychopathic serial killer who haunts true love.
For the final season, the series’ former creative director, Sera Gamble, steps down, and the story concludes with new showrunners. Of course, Penn Badgley, who becomes a star with the series, will remain as main character Joe Goldberg, but the poetic question at the end of the Netflix ad – “Will Judgment Day come for Joe?” — makes it questionable whether the central character will survive the final season. Not much more can be known about the story, except that after detours in California and London, the story returns to where it began: New York.
Te originally started on US cable TV called Lifetime in 2018, but it didn’t make much of an impact, it was canceled after one season due to low ratings. Then when it was uploaded to Netflix, it became an unexpected hit, so much so that the streaming company picked it up and kept it going. The popularity also brought with it a lot of serious controversy, with many criticizing the series for romanticizing psychopathic behaviour.
Filming for Chapter 5 hasn’t started yet, and the release is likely at the beginning of 2024 at the earliest.
