The company’s CEO, David Zaslav, announced on Wednesday that the Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), HBO Max, also available in Hungary, will leave the HBO brand name.
Max will launch on May 23rd, and will bring together HBO Max and Discovery+ content. It will launch in the US in May, but according to Telex information, it still has to wait until 2024 here.
WBD argues in favor of dropping the word “HBO” which to many stands for premium, i.e. a more expensive service.
US pricing also announced:
- The ad-free version is $15.99 for a month and $149.99 for a year.
- The commercial version is $9.99 for a month and $99.99 for a year.
- The so-called “Ultimate” subscription has no ads, supports 4K UHD resolution and Dolby Atmos sound, allows 100 downloads, and costs $19.99 per month, or $199.99 for a year.
At the event, not only the naming ceremony was announced, but also many new series and previews of previously announced series were shown and shown:
- The Harry Potter series, which will be based on and draw stories from Rowling’s novels, has been officially announced, according to the official description, “with an all-new cast.”
- Another Game of Thrones series, Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Night of the Hedge around Duncan the Hill, is in the works. The plan for the series isn’t new, Martin, who wrote the books, actually talked about it last year, but what’s certain is that the company commissioned the entire series.
- A series is being prepared in the world of horror films called Among the Demons, which so far consists of eight films.
- Chuck Lorre, creator of the original Brainiacs, is working on a new series. At the moment, nothing concrete is known about it, only that it will be about entirely new characters, but that characters from the original series will appear in it.
The first preview of the fourth season of True Detective has been released. New episodes of the crime series, which deal with separate stories for each season, will take place in Alaska, with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis playing the main roles. There is no set date for the premiere, only sometime this year.
You can also catch a small glimpse of the Penguin series, which will take place in the universe of the latest Batman movie, with Colin Farrell in the lead role, wearing the make-up of a burly mobster. Not a classic trailer, but an insight into photography. The series will come next year.
In addition to the trademarks and well-known sequels, there is also something new, the mini-series The Regime starring Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant, among others, that will be about all kinds of political upheavals. This will also come next year.
Viet Thanh Nguyen’s book The Sympathizer, also published in Hungarian, is also being made into a series, in which Robert Downey Jr. is both the title character and producer. South Korean Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, Mysterious Woman) is a director, writer and showrunner. This also comes in 2024.
