If the early RDNA 3 test results are anything to go by, we can expect some serious performance.

Although we officially only know about Asus’ portable console, the ROG Ally, that they made the hardware together with AMD, which is based on RDNA 3, from measuring a similar architecture, we can conclude that the Steam Deck will be capable of it. Brutal performance, after which Valve will have to rethink its business strategy.

the Eta Prime Test the YouTube video called How the Asus TUF A15 performs, which runs an AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS, the most powerful part of the series. However, for us, the graphics processor is more interesting, the Radeon 780M, which is also an RDNA 3 solution, and we expect something very similar to this for the ROG Ally as well.

Based on 3D Time Spy tests, the Radeon 780M’s performance is somewhere between the mobile GTX 1050 Ti and Radeon 680M, slightly behind the RTX 2050 and RTX 2060 mobile GPUs. However, there is no problem with this, because with a little tuning, very good results can be achieved with an APU.

The videographer managed to max out at 100fps in CS: GO at 1080p with High settings, but the 81fps achieved in GTA V with Very High settings is also definite. Cyberpunk 2077 measured no less, as in 1080p we were also able, albeit with low settings, to hit 60fps, which is close to a miracle for such a power-efficient solution.

Of course, you shouldn’t take this kind of comparison for granted, as the ROG Ally should have the same efficient cooling in a much smaller housing, but there’s no doubt that there’s a lot of cocoa in RDNA 3, and peak performance depends only on tuning. Exactly by Asus. We look forward to seeing what Valve does with this. Steam Deck 2 is coming?
